OTS Solicitors – Hans Sok Appadu qualifies as a solicitor

OTS Solicitors are delighted and very proud to announce that Hans Sok Appadu has qualified as a solicitor after 4 years of working at OTS Solicitors in London, initially as a paralegal and latterly as a trainee solicitor.

You may think that someone qualifying as a solicitor in a law firm is a common event but not for OTS Solicitors. Why? Well OTS Solicitors was only established in 2014. Hans Sok Appadu joined the firm as the outset of its journey to be recognised as one of the UK’s leading Immigration and family law firms. Hans Sok Appadu is therefore the first person to train with and qualify as a solicitor at OTS Solicitors. Co-founders, Oshin and Teni Shahiean hope that he will be the first of many to start his career as a solicitor at OTS Solicitors.

‘’As soon as I met Oshin and Teni Shahiean I knew that I wanted to be part of the team at OTS Solicitors. I feel privileged to have joined OTS Solicitors at its foundation and to have been able to see the firm’s growth from day one. One of the highlights of my career at OTS Solicitors was the day the firm first entered the leading UK legal directory of the legal profession, the Legal 500, as ranked leading lawyers in the field of Immigration law after less than 3 years trading. It was that sort of energy to succeed that inspired me through my training contract.

On a personal note, it is great to be doing a job that I love in an area of law that I am passionate about. My story is that I arrived in the UK at 18 on a student visa to study law. Leaving behind family and friends and arriving in the UK with little more than my parents’ hopes and ambitions for me was tough. The start to my life in the UK has not only shaped my career but also helped me understand just how important every visa application and every client at OTS Solicitors is.

I am very proud that I have a 100% success record in securing Spouse Visas and in applying for permanent residence on behalf of clients. One of my success stories is helping a lady who was desperate to secure a spouse visa for her husband. I discovered that she needed him to be present in the UK for a property transaction and that the couple might lose at lot of money if her husband's visa did not come through in time. Feeling under pressure because of her plight I contacted the Home Office and the following day the visa was secured. Not all visa applications are as straight forward or as quick but I love the fact that no 2 days are ever the same at OTS Solicitors. There is always another Immigration application to secure, whether that is for a premier footballer, a job recruit sponsored on a Tier 2 visa by a company, a student needing to resolve his student Immigration status or a Human Rights case involving representation at an Immigration appeal or judicial review.

At OTS Solicitors I am known for my passion and enthusiasm for the law and for my weekend support of Liverpool football club. I have been given the job of mentoring work experience students at OTS so I hope that I will be able to pass on my love of the law and what it can do to help the most vulnerable in society to the next generation of solicitors.

I am often asked by clients what career I would have entered if I had not met Oshin and Teni Shahiean and developed a passion for Immigration law. The choice would have been politics, offering the same opportunity to advocate on behalf of others. So I know that I am in the right profession when I have a job that I can speak up for people each day and be a small part in helping them achieve their goals’’.
