Now I need to travel back to my home country for a family ceremony and I just wanted to know if this could cause any problems with the border officials on my return to the UK.Any advice would be welcome.

Thank you for your enquiry.

You may be permitted to travel back to your home country. However generally, you are not permitted to stay out of the UK longer than 6 months while you are on discretionary leave.
