I am a Polish citizen and have lived and worked in the UK since 2005. I never acquired a PR card and now that I want to apply for a citizenship, I need to obtain it first. I know that PR won't be valid after 31 Dec 2020 and the equivalent is the EU settlement scheme. However, with EU settlement status I was told that I would have to wait another year to apply for the citizenship whereas with PR it can be backdated so I can apply for citizenship straight away. Is there a point for me to apply for PR first even if it will become invalid in a month's time? Or should I just apply for settled status (or both so I have the settlement status from January 2020 and when PR card arrives (even if invalid) I will just apply for citizenship straight away)? I would appreciate some advice. Thanks
