Thank you for your question. If your wife was a citizen of the Republic of Ireland on 31th December 1948 and made a claim to remain a British subject, then she may already be a British Citizen. If this does not apply then she would need to have lived in the UK for five years (three years if married to a British citizen) and applying for naturalisation. This is relatively straightforward provided the residence requirement is met. She may need to obtain a permanent residence Card before applying. The cost of British Citizenship at present is £1,236.
