Can my partner come with me to the UK?

I'm a UK citizen (female) from birth and my boyfriend lives in Goa India. He is a Indian citizen. We have been together for a year, worked together away as seafarers and I have been to visit him in Goa. We are looking into getting him to the UK so he can stay and also work. Where do we stand with this and what have we got to do ?

Based on your information, you may be able to apply for a unmarried partner visa however you must intend to remain in the UK on a permanent basis. A successful application would permit full working rights for your partner however it would be limited to 6 months in which time you would need to become married and switch to a spouse visa.
