How do I complete a British Citizenship Application Form?

  • Posted on

Hi, I am hoping to apply for citizenship by naturalisation later this year but wanted to check something. I am a dual US and Italian citizen and I have settled status under the EU settlement scheme. I have had both citizenships since birth but did not have an Italian passport for a long time. I came to the UK from the US in 2017 on a tier 4 student visa (using my American passport) because I did not have an Italian passport. I did finally get one in 2018. After 5 years total of being in the UK I got settled status in 2022. I'm filling out the citizenship application and they ask about previous immigration applications and BRPs, I have put I had these but I worry the home office will think it's odd, as technically I've always had Italian citizenship. Will they find it strange that I had a tier 4 visa even though I'm Italian? Will it potentially impact my application? My main concern is the 5 years required for EU settled status overlap with the tier 4 visa year, will this be an issue?
