The Importance of Choosing the Right Immigration Solicitors

  • Posted on

This month the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) closed down three law firms. The SRA intervention came about after a Daily Mail undercover operation involving journalists posing as asylum claimants and people requiring immigration services. The SRA will now quite rightly be conducting its own investigation into the practices at these firms but genuine immigration clients are worried about the impact of the law firm closures on them and on their pending or planned visa, asylum or licence applications.

The immigration lawyers at OTS Solicitors can help you if you need to find a new law firm for expert immigration legal advice.

The SRA closed firms

Two of the three immigration law firms where the SRA has intervened are in the London area; Rashid & Rashid in South Wimbledon and Lincoln Lawrence in Hounslow. The third law firm, Kingswright Solicitors, is in Birmingham.

An intervention or closure means the three firms cannot operate. This doesn’t just affect a client who may have had a questionable or non-genuine immigration claim (as revealed by the Daily Mail investigation) but also the thousands of immigration applicants who had gone to one of these three firms in good faith with a genuine immigration application.

How can OTS Solicitors help?

OTS Solicitors specialise in personal or individual immigration visa applications and in business immigration law. We have an excellent reputation and we are recommended in the leading law directory, Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession.

We don’t just have a great reputation in the law directories. We also have hard-won wonderful client reviews from happy clients. We like to think that we have a good working relationship with the Home Office as well. That reputation is earned through our making sure that the applications we submit to the Home Office are well prepared with the right supporting documents and with our correspondence and interactions with the department being tenacious but respectful.

At OTS Solicitors we believe that ‘one bad apple’ gives all immigration lawyers a bad name so it makes us even more determined to distance ourselves from the closed firms whilst reaching out to see if we can help those people and businesses caught up, through no fault of their own, in the closures.

We help people and businesses with all their immigration law needs across England and Wales. We are regularly asked to help people or companies who need to find alternative legal representation. That may be because they have had an application refused by the Home Office or because they are disappointed by their current lawyer’s lack of expertise or their speed of response.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time that an immigration law firm has been closed down by the SRA and genuine individuals and businesses have needed to find a new immigration lawyer. We have helped in the past and we are already receiving telephone calls from worried former clients from the recently closed law firms.

We may be able to help you if you have a genuine immigration application and you do not need legal aid. Unfortunately, we do not provide legal aid services.

We can help you with:

  • Planned visa or sponsor licence applications – we appreciate you may be concerned if you have paid a visa application fee to one of the three firms or if you have sent them your original paperwork
  • Pending visa or sponsor licence applications – we understand that you may want reassurance about the pending application and to employ us as a specialist law firm to answer any Home Office queries about the pending application
  • Appeals against refusals of visas or sponsor licence applications – our immigration team is used to giving urgent advice on refusals and appeal options, such as a request for an administrative review
  • Ongoing business immigration legal advice – for example, if you have a sponsor licence and you need professional sponsor licence management service for a fixed monthly retainer

Whatever the nature of your immigration law query our friendly team of specialist and professional immigration solicitors can help.
