Solicitors Certifying Documents in London

There are a range of scenarios where the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) (via a Local Authority (in the UK or abroad)) will request for a document to be certified by a solicitor. This is a service our team can provide on a same-day basis from £10+VAT per page.

To arrange an appointment with our solicitors for certifying documents in London, please contact us on 0203 959 9123. Please note that we do not accept walk-ins when certifying documents.

Documents may need to be certified for a number of different reasons. In addition to being a legal requirement for certain types of documents, certification may be required to:

  • Prove validity and authenticity
  • Prevent fraud
  • Provide international recognition

Certification will certainly be needed if a document that needs an official international stamp (known as an ‘apostille’) is simply a copy of the original. Without this certification, the FCDO will not be in a position to approve the document.

Please note that, as solicitors, we do not provide apostille services directly. We can, however, support you through the process of obtaining an apostille, explaining the requirements and ensuring that the appropriate documents are in proper order before they are submitted to the relevant authorities.

If you need a document to be apostilled, it is first advisable to check with the relevant government authority or dedicated apostille service provider to ensure that the correct processes are being followed.

Our solicitors have previously worked with a wide range of clients to certify documents, such as companies providing translation services and overseas clients, including American citizens. We are well placed to offer an efficient service, with our team being able to certify documents on a same day basis.

If you need to sign a statutory declaration, our solicitors will also be able to provide support in this area, acting as a witness where you need to make a formal statement to declare that the acts in a statement are true to your best knowledge. The presence of a solicitor, commissioner for oaths or notary public is a legal requirement for statutory declarations.

Whether working with original documents (or copies in specified cases), our solicitors will carry out a thorough process to complete the process swiftly and accurately. This may involve certifying an original or digital document, or witnessing a signature in order to authenticate it.

We are able to certify documents from £10+VAT per page.
